Promises

Promises by Fugazi from the 13 Songs cd

Sing along if you like:

There were no truer words than when spoken;
Let that stand as it should.
There was nothing left when broken:
We grab anything when we fall.
Promises are shit.
We speak the way we breathe…

Amen to that.  Happy f*ckin’ Friday to you.

sometimes…

you open your email and it’s all nicey nice random pleasantries…and sometimes you open your email and have to read two sentences 14 times and they still don’t make any sense.  WTF? i’d say pinch me, i must be dreaming, but if i’m not asleep and you pinch me, i will punch you.

WTF?!

My Beau

Chiquita is still reeling from the revelation that I have a beau…she was extra astounded to learn it was Jean-Claude Van Damme, or just JC, as I call him.

If we go back to where it all started so many years ago, I’d just broken up with Count Chocula, and I was in pretty bad shape.  I wasn’t looking for love because the Count had really done a number on my soul, man.

I was strolling through the PharMor music and video department.  I was ready to rent Fresh Horses (Molly Ringwald, Andrew McCarthy; pretty sure I still don’t really get that movie entirely)

…and I was humming along to the strains of 2 Legit 2 Quit piped through the store.  I reached for the last box of Snowcaps at the same moment he did.  Our eyes locked, our destinies entwined as I punched him in the jaw and ran away with the Snowcaps.  He caught up with me in the parking lot and introduced himself…JC told me he wanted to be an actor, maybe even an action hero of sorts, but truth be told, he just hadn’t found his groove yet.  He’d only had a bit part in a crowd scene in Breakin’

…and he really didn’t know what to do next, but he sensed somehow that I held the key to his destiny.

And so it began.  I schooled him in kickboxing and he schooled me in love.   If it weren’t for me, well, he’d have always remained an extra in those breakdancing movies and never a star.  And without him, I’d never have eaten Brussels sprouts right there in Brussels as I gathered with his family to celebrate Festivus.  Beautiful stuff.  And I’m so glad we can be out in the open about this.

(ok, so maybe, just maybe, that’s not exactly the real story…but there is indeed a story many long years in the making, a tale to tell soon enough, I suppose, of how timing is everything)
