quote

some rainy day Bukowski:

“He asked, “What makes a man a writer?” “Well,” I said, “it’s simple. You either get it down on paper, or jump off a bridge.”
― Charles Bukowski

…oh, what the hell, two more, because they are full of awesome, raw truth.

Sometimes you just have to pee in the sink.”

I remember awakening one morning and finding everything smeared with the color of forgotten love.”

quote about memory

Memoir is not an act of history but an act of memory, which is innately corrupt. -Mary Karr, (b. 1955) poet and memoirist

I thought this was a great quote.  When I write about anything from memory, and someone tells me “that’s not how it happened at all!”, I remind them gently, “But that’s how I remember it.”  Memory can be selective, can be clouded by emotion, can be softened or hardened with time depending on the moment I’m trying to recall.

Quotes about the stars, the moon…

Today’s theme has been moon, stars and Mr. Henry Rollins, so here ya go:

I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness because it shows me the stars.

Each of us represents a star in the sky; sometimes we shine with the rest, sometimes we twinkle alone, and sometimes … when we least expect it … we fall and make someone’s dreams come true.

And this last one is from Henry Rollins:

They say true love only comes around once and you have to hold out and be strong until then. I have been waiting. I have been searching. I am a man under the moon, walking the streets of earth until dawn. There’s got to be someone for me. It’s not too much to ask. Just someone to be with. Someone to love. Someone to give everything to. Someone.

I’m a quote collecting junkie.  I think I like quotes so much because the words let me know that someone else has felt exactly what I feel; that notion is both comforting and inspiring to me.
